身体を包む被服をはじめ様々なメディアを通じて、人生と生命の輝き（Shining Life）を表現し、AIとテクノロジーの時代に「新たな生活様式」の可能性を探求していきます。
SIGNS OF LIFE™ ponders over a question “What is life?” by way of regarding humans as “machines of balance” and explores and manifests the relationship between the body, mind and symbols through various media, including the clothing, i.e. envelopes of the body. SIGNS OF LIFE™ seeks “the shines of life” and travels through the possibilities of a “new way of life” in the age of AI and technology.
バランスの機械 ― machines of balance ―
地球が丸いということを確かめた人がほとんどいないように、自分の体の中に心臓があるという事実を確かめた人もまた少ない。
Just as few people have confirmed that the earth is round, few have confirmed the fact that there is a heart in their bodies.
多くの人は心臓があることを「情報」として知っていて、「事実」として知っているわけではないのだ。
Most people know that there is a heart as “information” and not as a “fact”.
そもそも五感を通して、我々に伝わるものは全て豊かな「情報」なのだから、どこからが「事実」となるのだろうか。
In the first place, everything that is transmitted to us through our five senses is a wealth of “information”, so where does the “fact” come from?
みぞおちに手を当てると、静かな鼓動を感じることができる。
If you put your hand on your solar plexus, you can feel the quiet beating of your heart.
人の胸に耳を当てると、脈打つ鼓動がきこえる。
If you put your ear to another person’s chest, you can hear a pulsating heartbeat.
しかし鼓動の正体は、想像とは全く違うものかもしれない。
But what that heartbeat really is may be something completely different from what you imagine.
胸を開くと、銀色に輝く歯車が重なり合い、時計のように針を回す心臓が見える可能性もゼロではないような気がする。
When you open your chest, there is a possibility that you can see a heart with silver gleaming gears overlapping each other and beating like a clock.
実際のところ、身体は繊細で奇跡的なバランスの機械であり、その奇跡のまさに心臓部というわけだ。
In fact, the body is delicate and miraculously machines of balance, and it is the very heart of this miracle.
二重の螺旋 ― Double Helix ―
心臓は英語でheart、そして心もheartだ。
In English, the organ and the mind are both described by the same word, heart.
heartは臓器であり、なおかつ心でもある。
Heart is both an organ and a mind.
繊細な機械であり不可視の心であり、それを表す記号だ。
It is a delicate machine, an invisible mind, and a symbol for it.
心と身体の合一、生と死、記号と実体、生命の機械的なるもの、そして我々の中に直接おこる喜びや悲しみ、輝きを表象している。
It represents the union of mind and body, life and death, symbol and substance, the mechanics of life, the joys and sorrows that arise directly within us, as well as their shining.
体の中に拳より少し大きい、心臓とよばれる繊細な、生命もしくは機械の中枢があって、ドクッドクッと脈打っている。
Inside the body, there is a delicate, vital or mechanical center, a little larger than a fist, called the heart, that beats with a pounding pulse.
その奇妙さを想像することで、生命ひいては人間の存在が奇跡的であり、だからこそ有限であることを感じることができる。
By imagining this strangeness, we can feel the miraculous and therefore finite nature of life and human existence.
自分の心臓が動くおかげで、自分や他者という存在、世界を認識できるのだから、自分の心臓と他者の心臓は、同じ臓器でありながら決定的に違う。
Because of the beating of our own heart, we are able to recognize ourselves, others, and the world, our own heart and others’ hearts are the same organ, but they are definitely different.
臓器と心は、二重の螺旋のように互いに支え合いつつも交わることはない。
The organs and the mind support each other like a double helix, but do not intersect.
生命、機械、心。そして、その曖昧な理解と記号、それが象徴するもの。
Life, machine, and mind. And its ambiguous understanding and symbols, what it symbolizes.
生命の「輝き」を乏しい知覚で捉えた「徴」であり、貧しくも豊かな想像力のささやかな贈り物。
It is a “sign” that captures the “shine” of life with scarce perception, a small gift from a poor but rich imagination.
生命に関わる情報を暫定的にでも可視化する。その理解の仕方は一通りではなく、曖昧で捉えどころがない。
Visualize life-threatening information, even tentatively. There is more than one way to capture it, and it is vague and elusive.
